Video Abstract
Artificial intelligence will undoubtedly have a powerful impact on society and the economy, and it will radically alter the world of work. Like other industrial revolutions, it will cause the automation of many professions that may be eliminated, reduced or transformed. Moreover, the emergence of new professions enabled by artificial intelligence is very likely. The overall balance of this revolution is yet to be determined.
Among the many possible future scenarios, we propose here the characteristics of what we consider probable and desirable:
Phase 1 – Widespread automation
- Automation of intellectual and professional activities as well
- Compensating for employment shortages with forms of automation
- Compensating for population decline through increased productivity
- End of many activities
- Emergence of new professions
- Need for digital training
Phase 2 – sociopolitical dialectic
- Wealth accumulation
- social conflicts
- redistribution of wealth
Stage 3 – leisure economy
- Increase leisure time
- Culture, entertainment, tourism, sports, and education sectors are developed.
