Regarding the broad topic of the environment, the application of AI technologies is useful in a variety of areas, from climate change prediction, to waste management, to biodiversity conservation; machine learning can then be used to detect premonitory signs of environmental disasters and problems, including natural pandemics, earthquakes, landslides, heavy rainfall, long-term reliability of water supplies, critical points of ecosystem collapse, outbreaks of cyanobacteria blooms, and drought.

Also making use of machine learning are autonomous ships monitoring the ocean, artificial intelligence-based satellite data analysis, passive acoustics or remote sensing, and other environmental monitoring applications.
