Aristotle calls man a “rational animal”(zoon logon echon), the only animal endowed with speech and rationality.
As Catholic Church AI expert Paolo Benanti says, language is the most important technology of man.
Today, however, Sapiens must relate to a new entity, which is not another living being but an automaton created by humans, the “automatos logon echon,” Artificial Intelligence endowed with speech and reason.
However, this issue concerns not only the individual, but the entire human community.
Man is not alone, he lives in community, again for Aristotle he is a “political animal “(zoon politikòn). Artificial Intelligence is not to be dealt with by individual humans (now increasingly referred to as users), who risk being overwhelmed by the superpowers of the “rational automaton,” but by the sociopolitical community, which must devise solutions to manage it in the interest of human growth, well-being, and independence.
