Video Abstract
The museum, thanks to the network and synthetic simulations, comes out of its enclosed space and pervades the territory, for example, by virtually relocating artifacts back to their original context, where, conversely, an immersive stargate opens, virtually bringing one back into the museum.
Museums thanks to digital enter schools, universities, become internationalized by engaging new targets.
In the museum and in schools, within educational workshops, new experiences can be created in the enjoyment and reworking of museum content.
The latest developments in generative artificial intelligence integrated with extended reality make it possible to conceive of conversational environments, in which different heterogeneous types of users can dialogue in different forms with the museum: dialogue can take place in multiple languages, be adapted in content and form to different ages, cultures and abilities. Conversational Avatars can play the part of characters and peoples of the past, who come alive and speak again thanks to Artificial Intelligence. Each museum could have its own “genius loci,” a historical protagonist, representing it: artificial intelligence can regenerate it from portraits or paintings, and create a first-person video narrative, making a messenger returning from the past a protagonist in the present.
It is a new scenario that can be very attractive and effective for those approaching access to cultural and historical content and, at the same time, it is a scenario that needs new skills and professional figures for the cultural industry.
