The original development model of Generative Artificial Intelligence, based on chatbot conversational interaction, began to show its limitations at the end of 2024, which did not allow technology companies such as OpenAI to implement the development of sustainable business models and thus find a place in the business world.

The limitation of Generative AI also lies in its other dominant connotation, the “generalist” one, which is often limited to the formulation of generic answers that are of little use with respect to the specific needs of companies and professionals.

The situation may even worsen with the rise of multimodal AI models, i.e., capable not only of generating text but also images, audio, video, and 3D models, all of which, however, are “synthetic,” so even if they are truthful, they are in fact false or rather “fake.” There is a risk of the proliferation of worthless, if not misleading, artificial content, which may soon lead to heavy information pollution, and subsequent disaffection with this technology.

There is a real risk of the bursting of a financial bubble that could hit precisely generative and generalist AI, which has created a synthetic world fueled by speculation and focused on end-user engagement and entertainment, in fact unrelated to the real world and concrete market needs, as was the case with the Metaverse.
