The multimodal generation of content-text, audio, images, video-is an exciting feature of generative artificial intelligence. Without an educational methodology and objective, however, such features can easily be trivial and ineffective.
To enhance them and at the same time stimulate students’ creativity, it is advisable to set challenging goals, such as illustrating a book, representing philosophical concepts, or applying AI to virtual environments, so as to use it not to produce ordinary content, but exceptional content; thus aiming to “extend” human intelligence, not inhibit it by replacing it with artificial intelligence.
The challenge, if it is to be met and produce extraordinary results, needs forms of student involvement and gratification that are unthinkable in the traditional educational paradigm.Only a lucid vision of the possibilities that new technologies offer, together with a determination to use those technologies for the evolution of human expressive and cognitive capacities, can lead to a new intelligence for Homo Extensus.
