The education system has always required an anthropological model, an idea of man to guide pedagogical principles and teaching methods.

The Homo Extensus paradigm, which is proposed here by the authors, is an attempt to imagine the forms of Human Intelligence in the age of Artificial Intelligence, and from these derive an innovative vision of education as well.

We are only at the beginning of a profound cognitive revolution, which is still difficult to interpret-in general and in education in particular-although let us try to propose some preliminary definitions:

  • Extended education is a new form and methodology of education, which is enhanced with the tools offered by Artificial Intelligence and extended reality.
  • The goal ofextended education is to enhance human intelligence through interaction with the new faculties of Artificial Intelligence, while developing informed management of the risks associated with new technologies.
  • Educational experimentation inextended education takes a complex path, involving the sharing of a vision of the future within the educational community and the adoption of emerging technologies and innovative methodologies.
  • The extended school is the school system expanding into the digital sphere, reclaiming the role of educational mediator between the network and the younger generation, and taking critical control of Artificial Intelligence.
